Makem moved from jail into Step Down program: Must stay away from victims he took pictures of in women’s restroom
DOVER — A city man who hid a camera in the ceiling of a women’s restroom has been accepted into the Step Down program run by the county’s Community Corrections Program.
Conor Makem, 46, pleaded guilty on May 30 to 19 counts of invasion of privacy and one count of falsifying physical evidence.
He admitted to taking multiple pictures of at least six victims in a bathroom at Merchants Plaza in Rochester between July 1, 2012, and October of last year.
At the time of the offenses that building housed the Rochester Times and was a Foster’s Daily Democrat bureau.
Makem, who had been a part-time reporter for the Times, was terminated after he was arrested on Oct. 17, 2013.
Makem was sentenced to serve 12 months at Strafford County House of Corrections and had completed almost five months when he was admitted on Monday into the Step Down program.
