FORT BLISS – One of the Army’s most important and strategic commands changed leaders Friday and entered into a new era.

Brig. Gen. Don Fryc relinquished command of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command and is transitioning to retirement with an effective date of Oct.

Fryc, a 55-year-old from Odenton, Md., had led the Blackjack Command since March 2014.

He was succeeded by Brig. Gen. Chris Spillman, a 56-year-old who is coming from Fort Sill, Okla., where he was commandant of the Air Defense Artillery School and chief of the Air Defense Artillery Branch.

The 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, which is headquartered at Fort Bliss, is “one of the most important commands in the entire Army,” said Gen.
